Revit/BIM Modeler

  • Do detailed 3D drawings bring out your inner ninja? Are you an ace with accuracy? Capital Electric Construction is looking for a BIM VDC Modeler to join its team in Kansas City, Kansas.
  • Join the Capital Electric Construction team as a BIM VDC Modeler and contribute to growing Kansas City! This team member will play a vital role in project planning and execution, and will collaborate with other trades as we strive to exceed our customers’ expectations.



The BIM/VDC Modeler will perform the functions of creating project deliverable drawings and models using the current versions of available software. Work includes 3D parametric modeling, representation and annotation of 3D information in 2D drawings, and 2D detailing for complex projects.


  1. Create 3D BIM models to a high level of accuracy.
  2. Develop plans, sections, elevations and details from a 3D BIM model for projects of all sizes and technical complexities.
  3. Clearly annotate, dimension and detail production drawings in conformance to Thornton Tomasetti standards and practices.
  4. Setup and manage large sheets sets including revisions and markups for each project. Plot drawings to pdf, dwg, or to paper plots.
  5. Assist and direct BIM workflow.
  6. Set up and geo-locate multiple models for a single project.
  7. Create 3D views or renderings on an as-needed basis for marketing or project use.
  8. Use advanced tools such as Navisworks for project collaboration across multiple disciplines in a BIM environment.
  9. Interface with engineers, our clients, and other consultants through clear communication and drawings. Interact with our clients to coordinate BIM modeling content and approaches, model exchanges, quality control, and delivery.
  10. Continued development of “best practices” for BIM.


Educational and experience requirements include:  High school diploma/GED and drafting courses required; one to two years technical training preferred.  1-5 years of modeling and clash detection required

Requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and complete projects on schedule.  Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others.  General knowledge and skills in the use of various Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience and understanding of REVIT, AutoCAD MEP, and their supporting technologies. Experience and understanding of interfacing with REVIT and MEP is preferred.  Excellent understanding of 3D parametric modeling to maximize the benefits of an integrated building model.  Thorough understanding of building components for modeling electrical components intelligently and efficiently to ensure the integrity of the electrical model.  Working knowledge of drawing production, standard construction techniques and principals.  Excellent skills in relation to rendering and graphic formats and their manipulation and output.

Position Description: Gould Evans is seeking a full-time Design Technology Manager to work as part of our collaborative design studios. Ideal candidate would have strong people and leadership skills and have broad experience in a range of project types. This individual will be responsible for providing design technology leadership and supporting project teams to create a strong design technology culture grounded in best practices and advancement through collaboration and feedback from our studios.

Primary responsibilities of the position:

  • Develop and curate Revit content, including office template, families, and detail libraries
  • Provides documentation, training, and mentoring on firm best practices and workflows to associates
  • Project team support through BIM kickoffs and execution plans, modeling support and QC
  • Expand the firm’s capabilities in the use of design applications to strengthen project delivery
  • Improve the quality and efficiency of the firm’s design and construction drawings

We’re seeking candidates with:

  • A professional degree in architecture or a related field, required. Licensure, preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience working on projects of varying types/scales.
  • 3+ years of experience in BIM management for a large multi-office firm, preferred.
  • An understanding of how design applications can support all phases of the design process.
  • Strong people skills – a good listener, communicator, organizer who is self-motivated.
  • Revit expertise, required. Experience with other related software platforms a plus.
  • Working knowledge of applications and workflows related to rendering, 3D printing, virtual reality, energy modeling, etc., required. Expertise, preferred.
  • A forward-thinking approach to stay on top of the latest advances in design technology.

Topic:  Owner Driven BIM, and What Architects Should be Asking

BIM is becoming an increasingly popular owner-requested project deliverable.  As the AEC industry explores adjustments and shifts needed across design teams to make this deliverable a reality, conflicting ideas continue to arise about what ‘BIM’ really is, who models what, and how reliable data is incorporated and tracked. This class will dispel common misconceptions concerning Level of Development, introduce best practices around BIM standards, and relay critical conversations you should be having with your clients (and contractors) where BIM is the deliverable.

At the end of this class, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss upcoming shifts in the construction industry that are projected to drive changes in design model output and use
  • Define Level of Development (LOD) for Model Elements and common misnomers
  • Understand how using an LOD Specification as part of your BIM Execution Plan can Minimize Risk
  • Understand why LOD discussions with owners and contractors are crucial at Project Start… and other conversations you should be having.
