December Meeting: C4R and BIM360

When: Thursday, December 14th, 2017
6:00-6:15 p.m. (Eat & Mingle)
6:15-7:15 p.m. (Presentation)

Where: Mid-West CAD

Topic: C4R and BIM360: Taking your Revit collaboration to the next level

Collaborating in the cloud has evolved well beyond document sharing. We will show and demonstrate key features of four tools to facilitate better coordination:
·         C4R (Collaboration for Revit): How is it different from local worksharing and what can it do?
·         BIM360 Team: Publish your models and sheets/views to share with non Revit users for model and document coordination and review
·         BIM360 Docs: Publish your sheets for markups and material takeoffs, as well as other features
·         BIM360 Glue: Navisworks users can utilize models for clash detection in the cloud for coordination with construction in the field

This will be a brief overview of each product highlighting key features and workflow, along with time for questions and discussion.

October Meeting: Efficiently Controlling Visibility with One Workset

When: Thursday, October 26th, 2017
6:00-6:15 p.m. (Eat & Mingle)
6:15-7:15 p.m. (Presentation)

Where: Henderson Engineers
8345 Lenexa Dr #300
Lenexa, KS 66214
(913) 742-5000

Topic: Efficiently Controlling Visibility with One Workset

Are you tired of troubleshooting visibility of item in Autodesk Revit that you’ve placed but can’t see? Or perhaps you are tired of always hiding the same elements in certain types of views. This class covers the use of Autodesk Revit families, shared parameters, categories, and filters with view templates to automatically control the visibility of elements in the model. We will cover the creation of filters along with implementation into a project template using view templates. Using this method in place of user-defined worksets allows you to quickly create new projects and views within those projects with the correct visibility/graphics settings.

This class will help you implement standards that allow users to easily understand and apply filters. We will also touch on some best practices and limitations. By taking full advantage of Autodesk Revit’s visibility controls, designers and engineers can spend less time worrying about visibility issues and more time focusing on design. Leaving only one workset in the model is the most efficient way to ensure that designers never select the incorrect workset.

Topic: You have a point cloud… now what?

Reality capture works to ensure you have the most accurate picture of what’s on your project site. But it can also refer to using a model to automatically lay out points from a model into the real world.
With a new partnership between Leica Geosystems and Autodesk, adding reality capture to your workflow is easier than ever before. Join us to learn about:
• The digitization of physical conditions (AKA capturing accurate as-builts) from numerous point cloud sources
• How to use that data efficiently in your design
• Collaborating efficiently with the field and other project partners
• Making the digital, physical with automatic layout of points from your model
You’ll see live demonstration of a variety of programs, including Autodesk software, Leica Geosystems hardware, as well as expert advice from someone who’s been there and done that.

Topic: Working with the US Army Corps and BIM (Update to the 2013 presentation)

As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) continues its path towards fully utilizing BIM, ensuring that the private sector understands what is required to deliver a BIM-based project is paramount to success. Our next meeting, we will discuss the collaborative development of the USACE BIM contract language, discuss requirements, list deliverables, and explain the USACE BIM project execution plan (PxP) template and the new Minimum Modeling Matrix (M3).

The PxP and M3 are at the cornerstone of the USACE BIM Process: The PxP is a document submitted by the private sector partner that defines the project process for the team. The M3 is a document used by the team to define deliverable Level of Development for each model element (based on Classification Systems like OmniClass and UniFormat.)

This presentation is by a private sector committee member of the US Army Corps of Engineers BIM Advisory Committee. This presentation will discuss the presenter’s experiences and efforts in the process.
