Topic: Norman Philipp, from Pittsburg State University’s School of Construction, will be presenting UAVs to ReCap to Revit.

It is projected by a CNN Money article that UAVs could have an economic impact between $80 and $90 billion dollars overall, of which the architectural, engineering and construction industries will be a large percentage.  This topic covers the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) or “drones” to capture field data via photographs and video, the processing of the imagery data through ReCAP to generate point clouds, then the importing of the data into Revit to utilize the information collected.  We will briefly cover the different types of drones available in the market and recommended settings like photo quality, location of shots, and amount of photos needed to upload data to ReCAP.  In addition we will also cover developing FAA regulations along with other guidelines that may restrict where you can fly and how you can use the information you collect.  After that we will take a real life situation and site to develop a working model.  In ReCAP, we will go over point cloud editing and different ways to view the data we just captured.  Finally, we will go over steps on how to import this data into Revit to showcase and use the information we have collected.
